Infamous 2 brings back Cole, a bike messenger who has transformed into a electricity wielding superhero. The game promises countless missions in an excellent open world environment
The first Infamous proved that you don't really need a comic book hero to make a great superhero game. Sure it's great to see Spidey swing through New York, or Batman live out your favourite comic book experiences.
But with Infamous, Sucker Punch Studios created an origin story, gave the hero a direction and offered a narration that made it one of the best superhero games ever made. While Infamous 2 is not as revolutionary as the first game, it's definitely a better product and a more enjoyable experience. You don't have to play the original Infamous to follow the plot of the sequel.
Everything's explained in the un-skippable opening cinematic itself. To keep things fresh and not make you run through the same Empire city again, you are moved to New Marias in the beginning of the game itself.

This offers you a fresh start in every way and once again you have the option of making good or evil choices, which will result in the kind of power-ups you get and the way your personality develops. You start the game with a lot of power-ups that you've earned in the previous plot, so Cole (the protagonist) is a pretty powerful guy to begin with. But as the game progresses, you earn more upgrades and new powers to get you strong enough for the end.
It's not a bulldozed journey through the narrative. There are many side quests and incidents spread throughout the levels to keep you busy for a very long time. Doing side missions help you clean out different areas of the city, making them crime-free.
The other missions like rescuing a mugging attempt or diffusing a bomb or even taking out a noisy street performer earns you karma. Visually the game is truly impressive. Considering its a sandbox game where visuals are often compromised for scope, the game looks spectacular.
The city feels alive with people who react to everything you do. Building architecture too is incredibly varied, and every neighbourhood has its own feel.
Cole himself looks, well different from the first game and sounds different too. I wonder what could have caused Sucker Punch to make that incredible change, but it's something you get over in no time. Cole also has a new melee weapon called 'Amped' that ends up being a huge help in combat, and also adds a cool finisher option.
Infamous 2 is a great sequel and an excellent game. You can play this for hours without getting bored, simply because (in true sandbox style) there's just so much to do. It's just another great game in Sony's exclusive line-up this year. Even though they had a real bad time recently with the PSN outage, this is the game that will make gamers forgive and forget.
