Goto My computer>select hard disk>Right click>Properties>tools>Error-checking> to correct the errors click Check now button under error-checking.

Fragmentation

Windows delete the files and stores data in the form of small fragments in the hard disk. During frequent data storage and changing the data irrelevant fragments arranged together that reduces the response time of the operating system.

Solution

Goto Start> All programs> Accessories > System tools> Disk defragmenter
After entering into the location specified above select the hard disk and click Analyze option.

Indexing

Indexing service is used for sorting your files based on date, size, type etc. This utilizes some amount of processing speed. So according to the frequency of usage of this particular function user can temporarily disable this function.

Solution

Goto Control panel> Add/remove programs> Windows components> Unmark the tick before indexing services

Performance optimization

Performance of the windows operating system can be enhanced by using proper display settings.

1. Reduce using animated wallpapers
2. Mouse pointer animation also reduces the performance

Font, Network option searching and performance

Fonts utilizing the processor more and it reduces the performance. True type fonts especially reduces speed.
